20th anniversary of Denver International Airport DIA/KDEN

With all the growth and infrastructure Denver has seen in the last few years we are proud to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Denver International Airport or DIA/KDEN. This anniversary comes right in time as the new Westin Hotel (located on the south side of the main terminal) is nearly complete and the highly anticipated RTD’s East Rail Line, scheduled to open for passenger service next year.

Westin Denver Airport Hotel is scheduled to open in the Fall of this year 2015. The Westin Hotel will host 519 guest rooms with 35 soundproof, panoramic view suites overlooking the beautiful Downtown Denver and the scenic Rocky Mountains. The Westin will also feature a public plaza offering beautifully landscaped outdoor space designed to host exhibits, special events and conventions normally set in the Downtown Denver Convention Center.

RTD’s commuter rail cars arrived into the Westin Hotel Station at Denver International Airport for the first time on Friday, April 17 2015. These trains will be part of RTD’s East Rail Line, which will operate from Aurora’s Nine Mile Station and is scheduled to open for passenger service next year and shortly afterwards Denver’s Union Station. The trains are largely different from the light rail system currently used throughout the Denver Metro area now and will use 25,000-volt AC power from an overhead line to operate opposed to the 750-volt DC system which powers the current light rail system.

Denver International Airport is the fifth busiest airport in the whole United States and considered the tenth busiest airport in the entire world. For airports that see over 50 million passengers annually, DIA ranks eighth in the Passenger Choice Award. The ranking are based off 39 elements including security, departure and arrivals, baggage, check-in, and retail shopping to name a few. Votes came from around 13 million people from 112 nationalities and travelers from 550 airports around the world.
